Sensory Integration
Sensory integration is the process by which the brain receives, organizes, and interprets information from the senses so that a person can respond appropriately to the environment.
This includes information from sight (vision), hearing, touch, taste, smell, balance and movement (vestibular sense), and body position and movement (proprioception).
For example, when a child catches a ball, the brain integrates visual information (seeing the ball), proprioceptive information (knowing where the hands are), and vestibular information (maintaining balance) to perform the action successfully.
Simple definition: Sensory integration is the brain's ability to organize and process sensory information from the body and environment to produce an appropriate response.
